JAMAICA

I recently surprised Yolie with a five-day getaway. She didn’t know where she was going until we arrived at the airport departure gate. I’ve done this before where I give her an idea of what to pack, and I tell her how many days we’ll be away and what the weather will be at the destination. From the guidance I provided she was thinking Mexico or Florida. Her favorite place to go, Jamaica, was immediately out of the running since we were there just two weeks earlier. She also ruled out her second favorite place, Puerto Rico, since we’ll be going there in a couple months. As it turned out, I threw her a major league curveball by taking her back to our second “home”, Jamaica!

I arranged for Clive’s Transportation Service to meet us at the Montego Bay airport and to take us to our resort in Negril. We always use Clive’s getting back and forth from the airport. Their friendly, courteous, and reliable greeter, Fabian, always meets us with cold Red Stripes as we exit the terminal. This time our driver was Terry, who also took us back to the airport at the end of our stay. Terry, like all the other Clive’s drivers, was right on time; and he skillfully negotiated the challenging Jamaican traffic, weather, and road conditions. Thanks, Terry!

This time we arrived at the Firefly Beach Cottages in Negril. Upon arriving we found the resort to be without power. Thankfully, the bar was equipped with a generator. So we settled in with Sophia, the bartender, and she refreshed us with the best rum punches we’ve ever had…and we’ve had quite a few. After a while the power returned and we were able to really kick start our five day retreat. As always, we had a great time in Jamaica and we look forward to returning “home” again in the future.
